Cultural and Educational Role of the center:

The cultural and educational role of the marine biology research center acts as an important factor in the education and awareness among Libyan citizens about the importance of the marine environment and it s wealth, the impacts of pollution on it . The center had adhered to spread the marine knowledge and education among members of the society, as to open its doors to all students from schools, institutes, colleges and clubs to visit the center and gain information about the marine science fields, through show-ing scientific and documentary films that describe the marine environment Lectures explaining the activities of the center laboratories, research units, marine organisms museum, preserved specimens museum, breeding and fattening basins in which experiments on sea and fresh water fishes are carried out, and also some life feed experiments on microalgae and the brine shrimp (artemia) and some crustaceans that are important in feeding fish larvae. Emphasizing the role of the center in strengthening the marine education, many researchers have been sent from the centre to a number of Libyan cities to give lectures and lessons to various sectors of the society and encouraging them to practice marine activities, in addition to participating with a booth in many specialized expositions through which the center shall be acknowledged and distributing publications, scientific and directive releases, and exhibiting posters, scientific boards and specimens of the marine organisms in order to promote the awareness to the marine wealth and environment.

-The center had also asserted its positive role in the educational process in the universities as it opens its laboratories and its distinguished library to postgraduate students and the senior undergraduate students, and executing graduation projects related to marine science and aquaculture, and cooperate with the universities in the scientific supervision on these projects. The center had subjugated all its human and scientific resources and available installations to be at the disposal of the post graduate students of Libyan universities where a number of master's Degree thesis and graduation projects had been done at the center.

 

About MBRC

The Marine Biology Research Center was established in  September 1984, the Marine Fisheries Research Center merged with the Marine Biology Re­search Center (MBRC) of Tajura in or­der to unite and the capabilities the ex­pertise of both centers.
Since its establishment until now, the center had endeavoured to accomplish these goals.
